Auto Movers
Save time: Hire qualified auto transport
Have a car you want to move? There are some significant advantages to using an
auto transport company to move your vehicle from one location to another. It can
save you time and inconvenience if you are in the process of moving as well as
gas and mileage on your car.
To plan your auto move, figure that the move itself will take between one and
two weeks depending on distance. Depending on the type of car you're moving,
you'll also want to decide whether you want an open transporter like the ones
used for new cars or a closed truck that can protect your car from bad weather
or other sources of potential damage.
You'll need to make yourself available at both ends of the shipment to deliver
and receive your vehicle. Should you miss delivery, the transporter may store
your vehicle for additional fees.
Check the mover out
It's always important to check your movers out thoroughly. Make sure that the
carrier you select has Federal authority granted through the Department of
Transportation and carries insurance, especially if it's an interstate move.
Find out if the carrier owns its own trucks and does the moving or if it is a
broker. You'll be better off with an experienced, licensed trucker than with a
broker who may give your job to someone else. Read the contract and make sure
you understand exactly what the cost, terms, and exceptions are before you sign.
Ask for clarification until you are satisfied. Get references and call to verify
them. There are many good movers, but there are also unscrupulous movers you'll
want to take care to avoid.
Check with your insurance agent to find out what coverage is available to you
under your auto policy.
